—Not Ready To Say Goodbye
This summer my best friend and I took a road trip from Seattle to LA, avoiding most major roads and taking the scenic byways instead. We had copious amounts of playlists for the drive. Now if only we had this album then I can guarantee it would have made it on many of those said playlists. Joel Guthrie finished recording his debut album Subtitle’s For A Love Song recently with Jesse Barrera in his home studio in San Diego. It’s kind of an emotional roller coaster, but not the kind that make you sick, the kind that the second you get off you want to get back in line to ride it all over again. Whether it be from Joel’s personal influences such as Hanson, or The Goo Goo Dolls, every song has a different sense of style to it.
Not Ready To say Goodbye is by far my favorite song off of Subtitle’s, with Let Me Be With You coming in a close 2nd, both follow that summer theme we all long so much for. Despite the fact that it is winter and my playlists have all switched from Tommy & The High Pilots and Mona, to Mumford and Sons and Lydia, I’ve caught myself this past week playing Joel’s album with everything I do. Now there are times when you can tell that Joel is a new and young artist; he has a lot to learn and many places for him to grow as an artist, and take his writing skills to the next level, but that doesn’t go without saying that there are mass amounts of space for him to grow in. I am personally ecstatic to hear what he has to share in the future. Subtitle’s For A Love Song will be released on iTunes on January 2, 2012.
